A Duty to Heal - Summary
Pius Kamau is from Kenya .He grew up in grinding poverty ,but as a young man from many young Kenyan men he got a chance to go school.He studied medicine in his native country.all though he studied in his country his shining hope was America. At the time Martin Luther King was struggling non violent political movement were made Pius American ideals filled his mind.He promised to him self that he would walk one day in American street.Pius before he came to U S A he studied medicine in Kenya as well as Spain and England.After years stood in Kenya,British,and Spain he came to America. Soon he set his foot in America though reality racism quickly intruded on his ideals.his color and his accent made him set apart.In 1999 Pius was doctor in American hospital. 19 year old white supremacist was brought in the hospital.Doctor Pius came close to the patient, but the 19 year old patient spat on him. The nurses told Pius wont let to touch him, because he is a black doctor. The white patient needs only white physician.Pius tried to talk to him but he refused. Pius Kumau believes all patients all human beings are equal,for that sake he must care for everyone, even those who hate him.
